“What is an implant?”
Dental implants act as an artificial root, which having been installed into the jaw bone fuse together with the bone and are then loaded with crowns or a bridge to provide firm, stable teeth.

There are three parts to an implant:
• the implant device itself (which is inserted directly into the bone)
• the abutment - the piece that connects the implant device to the third part, which is:
• the overlying crown or denture.
“Are dental implants expensive?”
Every dental case is different, so the cost of dental implants also varies. Cost is determined by many aspects: the number of implants, whether there’s a need for a sinus lift or bone graft, the material of the bridge, etc...

Generally speaking, our prices are 60-70% lower than typical UK prices with accommodation and flights included. The dental staff are highly skilled and experienced, the clinic state-of-the-art, the dental laboratory cutting-edge and most important of all the dental work our patients receive is beautiful.
“What are the advantages of dental implants over other methods of tooth replacement?”
There are several benefits to dental implants. Many patients report exciting benefits from dental implants, such as:
• Replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth
• Improved taste and appetite
• Improved cosmetic appearance
• The ability to chew without pain or gum irritation
• Improved quality of life
• Improved speech

An additional and very important benefit can be the reduction or elimination of bone atrophy or shrinkage, commonly associated with tooth loss.
Dental implants are truly revolutionary, providing a solution to an old age problem safely and predictably.
“What are the disadvantages of dental implants?”
Dental implant require an investment in time and a greater financial investment than in the case of removable bridges or conventional dentures.

Dental implants involve a risk of infection, as does any surgical procedure. Occasionally, an implant may loosen and require replacement.
“How much does a single dental implant cost?”
The cost of an implant ranges from 700 GBP. The type of implant needed depends on the dental problem itself. It is very important to insert implants of the appropriate type, length and thickness. The implantologist decides which implant to choose.
“What types of dental implant are there?”
There are lots of types of implants as many times implants are needed in different sizes, lengths and thickness during treatment. The type of implant you need will be determined by your implantologist while your own personal treatment plan is being created. We usually use two types of implant: conventional and bi-cortical.
“What should i know about conventional implant?”
The majority of implants are conventional implants, which take 3-6 months to load after they’ve been inserted. These implants look and behave very much like an original tooth's root and are generally used when there is sufficient bone to receive them. If there is insufficient bone then additional procedures such as sinus lifts, bone augmentation or bone grafts are necessary. However, some people are still refused these types of implant due to very low bone density or severe lack of bone, which is why other types of implant system are used.
“Why are bi-cortical implants revolutionary?”
Other types of implant include bi-cortical implants, which are generally longer and thinner than conventional implants in order to access harder bone deeper in the jaw and provide the necessary stability for crowns and/or bridges. These types of implant are popularly and successfully used when patients have been refused conventional implants.

Each of our vastly experienced implantologists specialises in either conventional or bi-cortical implants and are able to provide permanent solutions for patients, even those who have previously been refused implant treatment.
“What are implants made of?”
Most dental implants are made of a pure unalloyed titanium cold dressing and titanium is completely accepted by the human body system. Implants go through a number of “treatments” following production (surface maintenance, passivation, plasma spray, sterilization) before arriving at the dentist’s in a sterile package.
“How can dental implants improve my health?”
One of the main aspects of good health is good oral hygiene. Toothlessness and unfixed tooth replacements can cause problems while eating and speaking. It is common for those who wear dentures to lose their taste sensations (salty, sour, bitter, hot) as the taste buds are covered by denture adhesive. In addition, chewing can be difficult resulting in severe digestive problems.

Dentures start to move after a while due to jaw bone loss. Moving dentures can cause bruising and sores in the mouth, making everyday life uncomfortable. Dental implants are very similar to natural teeth in function and appearance. Implants improve the ability to taste and chew, another reason why implants are an ideal replacement for missing teeth.
“Can dental implants preserve bone?”
Many patients have said that their dentures started to loosen progressively after a while and no longer fitted the gum properly. The main reason for this is that dentures work totally differently to natural teeth. Dentures don’t have roots so chewing forces cannot be directed by the jaw bones, while these same forces are responsible for the maintenance of the jaw bones! As a result the jaw bones start to recede.

Dental implants are very similar to natural teeth in function. Dental implants act as an artificial root, which having been installed into the jaw bone fuse together with the bone and are then loaded with crowns or a bridge to provide firm, stable teeth. As implants assume the function of tooth roots so they are able to direct the chewing forces into the jaw bone, slowing down or even halting bone recession.
“Who is suitable for dental implants?”
Anyone can receive dental implants, regardless of age, if the condition of the jaw bone is conducive to reception. The patient needs to have good oral hygiene. Addictions such as smoking or drinking alcohol can affect the healing process and the life expectancy of the implants to a considerable degree; these addictions can also lead to further gum and bone recession.
